Veterinary Emergency Services has been serving Shenandoah Valley for over 25 years with one clear mission: to be here when your pet needs help the most. Our hospital is open 24/7, including nights, weekends, and holidays, and fully equipped to treat critical illness and injury. From toxin ingestion and trauma to sudden collapse or breathing issues, our emergency veterinarians act fast, communicate clearly, and provide expert care you can rely on. We primarily see cats and dogs, but some of our veterinarians are also trained to treat exotic pets such as birds, reptiles, and small mammals. Please call ahead to confirm availability for exotic species so we can ensure the right care is in place.

Dr. Renee Addison is a graduate of Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine. Originally from Stuarts Draft, Virginia, she has lived in a wide range of extraordinary places—from the tropical islands of Maui and St. Kitts to the austere deserts of Djibouti in eastern Africa.
With a uniquely diverse medical background, Dr. Addison brings a wealth of experience to her role as an emergency veterinarian. She has served as a rescue squad medic, a U.S. Navy Hospital Corpsman (combat medic), and spent several years working as a veterinary technician. She completed a rotating internship in small animal medicine and surgery at the VCA Animal Referral and Emergency Center of Arizona, where she later worked as an overnight emergency doctor for several years.
Dr. Addison rejoined the Veterinary Emergency Services team in 2017 and is proud to serve the community she calls home.
Outside of work, she enjoys life on a small hobby farm with her wife, their two children, and a lively collection of animals—including several dogs and cats, a horse, two donkeys, three pigs, and a variety of fish.
Her favorite breed, and the one closest to her heart, is the Black Labrador Retriever. In her downtime, Dr. Addison can often be found alongside her beloved Lab, Hokulani (aka BBQLab), competing in barbecue and live-fire cooking events as part of their team, The Swine Doctor’s BBQ.
Growing up in a house full of all kinds of animals, Dr. Stauffer always knew she wanted to be a veterinarian. After she received her DVM from the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine in Blacksburg in 2012, Dr. Stauffer worked in daytime general practice for 8 years. Dr. Stauffer joined VES as a relief veterinarian in April of 2019, and then became a full-time associate in October 2020. She decided to join VES full-time after discovering her love of emergency care (especially surgery) as a relief ER doctor.
These days, Dr. Stauffer has far fewer animals than she did while growing up; just three large dogs, Lena, Bindi, and Nora (who came to her as an injured puppy at VES). Outside of the clinic, she enjoys gaming, reading, and traveling with her husband and children.
A member of the VES team since September 2022, Dr. Robertson originally hails from Alberta, Canada. He discovered his love for veterinary medicine and the ability to have a direct and meaningful impact on the lives of animals while volunteering with a wildlife rescue in Ecuador. He went on to earn his DVM from the University of Saskatchewan, Western College of Veterinary Medicine.
Dr. Robertson has special interests in wildlife/exotics and surgery. He appreciates working as part of a team to solve problems and that he is always learning something new at VES.
At home, Dr. Robertson has a small menagerie: 2 dogs (Lilah and Eloise), 2 cats (Charlotte and Rosie), an African Grey parrot (Zoey), and a chinchilla (Pete). He enjoys skiing, hiking, exploring and traveling.
Born and raised in Puerto Rico, Dr. Prado Sanchez received her undergraduate education (Bachelor’s) from the University of Puerto Rico Mayaguez Campus in Animal Science with a minor in Pre-Veterinary Studies. After graduation, she moved to the mainland USA, where she pursued her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and Master’s of Public Health at the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine (Virginia Tech) in Blacksburg, VA. After graduating in 2019, she began her veterinary career in small animal private practice on the Peninsula of VA, later transitioning to Relief Veterinary work in General Practice, Preventive Medicine, Palliative and Hospice Care, and Emergency Medicine.
In 2022, she moved to the Shenandoah Valley with her family, including three dogs, to start a new life in the valley.
Dr. Ryan Fulton has been working in the field of veterinary medicine for over 10 years. Most of his experience is in the field of emergency medicine. Growing up, as many veterinarians do, he had a plethora of animals to care for which pushed him to get his veterinary license to be able to make a difference in their everyday lives. Nowadays he treats primarily dogs and cats and would like to someday work more with exotic species.
Outside of work you can find him reading a nice book, hiking in the blue ridge mountains, or perusing local antique stores.

We triage patients by urgency. Pets in critical condition are seen immediately, while those in stable condition may have a short wait depending on case severity. Our goal is always safe, timely care for every patient.
